The Weber Alnico Blue Dogs are a little thicker in the mid-range to lower-mids and I feel would be a better fit for the Black Cat. Also a variety of ribbed cones for a range of sounds. I'm going to leave it in for a while, play a few gigs with it, see how it goes. May 3, 2003 · The Weber is a very bright and brash sounding speaker, which I was able to tame by rolling back the treble to 5-6, and boosting the bass a little. It's supposed to be a higher wattage Blue, but I much prefer a Blue (more mids). Couldn't be happier in every sense of the word ! Oct 23, 2005 · Thought about retiring the original Oxfords from my '66 Super Reverbs. Also all sound warmer than a true old Jensen or Rola, but I do like them. There's nothing wrong with the Weber Alnico Blue Dog, but if you want a Celestion Blue, the Weber is not going to get you all the way there. Weber's smooth cones are considerably stiffer than the old very thin smooth cones and make for a much warmer and less distorted speaker. Anybody tried them? Are they louder than the original Alnicos?
